Do not take part in the mockery of your leaders, whether the person is an imam, a priest, or the president. “What goes around, comes around”. Today, you might be happy about others disrespecting them for you, but tomorrow, you might not want anybody to disrespect your chosen leader.
Allah is very fair. He gave us leaders based on that society behaviors. “And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much. (See the Quran Verse 35:45).
I am not denying the fact that we can hold our leaders accountable respectfully. Remind them of their duties. That’s why Deen is essential to study. This will help you resolve yourself in this modern-day world. Unless we go back to the drawing board, nothing shall change because some of us don’t even have the moral traits.
How can we advocate for good morality? When we don’t possess such in our respective status. We’re every day complaining about some families and their parents’ lack of care towards their children. The youths on hard drugs are rapidly growing and causing problems into society. The lack of envision in some youths and the lackadaisical attitudes among us.
Furthermore, the dirty politics that we are playing with each other, it all shows what type of people are we. Which Allah says: “Verily, Allah will not change the (good) condition of a people as long as they do not change their state (of goodness) themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allah)” [al-Ra’d 13:11]
We want to silence everyone, and this means we have to go the extra miles to tarnish and character assassinate others in a simple context of,” I am fighting for my country.” If we are interested in changing the existing state of affairs, we must be responsible and respectful citizens. That will preach, write, and speak diligently, morally, and with a higher status of wisdom.
The politics in the Gambia has come to the stage of character assassination and gang up to destroy each other. At times, even a simple joke, we took it very personally. What even surprised me, how we took pride of these dealing is overwhelming in this country.
Let’s do self assessment, and be action oriented. In the Gambia, some people only complain when it doesn’t favor them. I have been scrolling social media for decades, and it’s unfortunate how we tag each other on issues that are completely biased and lack an atom of truth. People are not delusional, and leadership is beyond the stage of being a keyboard warrior.
In conclusion, our leaders should look into underprivileged situations. Travel across the Gambia and see how families are living. From this commission, we have seen how officials distribute wealth among themselves, and this is not the way to solve our problems. Perpetrators into the government taking the taxpayers’ money should be held accountable. Work on fair dispensation of justice and enforce the security units of this country.
Digitalize the whole system of the government. This will reduce the high rates of corruption and add more initiatives, more programs for the youths to get employed, and foster peace, progress, and equal rights to different people, including the disabled people. “Let Justice Guide Our Actions, Towards The Common Good.” I hope this message we sang from our national anthem will sink into our hearts.
